Arlesburgh is a seaside town based on both sides of the Arle Estuary. The town is a popular tourist destination on Sodor, partly impacted by the opening of the Arlesdale Railway in 1967. Arlesburgh West is the top station on Duck's Branch Line and is the headquarters for the Arlesdale Railway. It formerly had been the western terminus for the Mid Sodor Railway, and a connecting steamer service to Douglas on the Isle of Man. The latter was curtailed in 1935, which brought about a factor in the Mid Sodor's final closure in 1947.
A ballast chute was built in conjunction with the opening of the Arlesdale Railway. This provides efficiency to the operation in which the loads from the hopper wagons brought by the miniature engines from the old mines at Arlesdale, are transferred into standard-gauge trucks. The other station in town, Arlesburgh Bridge Street, is the one used by the Arlesdale Railway.
The Arlesburgh Engine Sheds were built conjunctively to provide a turnaround base for Duck, Oliver and occasionally Donald and Douglas. Oliver smashed S.C. Ruffey here by dragging him under restrained force to his fate.
